How to STOP the Auto Update service (Windows and Linux)

The JetAdvice Updater service checks periodically whether there are any new updates for the JetAdvice Edge and Edge UI services.

In certain customer environments, updates of software need to be qualified/tested before updates/installation can happen. This method allows the Updater service to stop automatically updating installing the latest versions. Re-enabling the service is as easy reversing these steps below when renaming the service.

Note: Disabling the Updater service will only stop the version updates for Edge, Edge UI and Updater services. It will not affect the discovery, collection, or general functionality of the running connector.

Windows
Disabling the JetAdvice-Updater service

Stop the service in the Windows console and set the service to be disabled from auto-starting in the future.

  • Double-click on the JetAdvice-Updater service
  • Set the Startup type to 'Disabled' on the General tab

Linux
Renaming the service:
JetAdvice Edge will be looking for the specific service name to run the service. If it is not there or is renamed, it will not be able to be ran.

  • Change directory
    cd /usr/bin/JetAdvice/Updater/
  • Rename file
    sudo mv Updater.dll Updater1.dll

To see the service is stopped, you can either wait approximately 60min or reboot the Pi. After a reboot, you will be able to see the service is stopped immediately.
