HP counters in JetAdvice Manager (FutureSmart counters)

21-04-2016

We recently announced that HP printers that use the newer FutureSmart (FS) firmware will be updated to make sure they are using the best counters, the legacy HP counters will not be used for HP’s FS printers in JetAdvice Manager.

Why?
The standard counters HP has used in the past for legacy devices were based on different firmware technology. With the introduction of the new FS firmware, there is a difference that should be used as a replacement of the old counters to work with the new updated technology.

What does this mean for you?
HP printers that come with FS firmware by default, as well as those devices that can be upgraded to use FS firmware, have FutureSmart counters specific to the type of firmware used in the device. Now, in JetAdvice Manager, when you see the totals on the Dashboard or in other areas they will reflect the HP suggested/supported counters.

What do you have to do?
Nothing, except know that JetAdvice is providing the most accurate counters for those devices. The difference between the 2 was not drastic but unique enough HP encouraged the change. The FutureSmart counters are the equivalent A4 counters which can be found on the printer’s Usage page.

If the counters are not updated after 21-04-2016 then you need to update the printer firmware to the latest available from HP web site.
