If the customer uses a Proxy then you need to add Proxy settings in the Data Collector during the installation.

Proxy settings can be found in Internet Explore: Tools --> Internet Options --> Connections --> LAN Settings

After that then set the Data Collector Service to use an account which has the necessary rights to access the internet.
